October 27, 1934 ~ September 4, 2024 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Ruth Link Obituary

Ruth McCoy Link was born at Duke Hospital in Durham, North Carolina to the late Clara and Dock McCoy on October 27th 1934. 

Ruth has a twin sister and is the eldest of 5 children who were all born and raised in Durham North Carolina. They were a close family who spent their spare time together and loved one another deeply. After school, they spent time playing, completing chores, cooking and enjoying each others company.

They also worked part time picking fruits and vegetables on a nearby farm. Ruth worked part time alongside a seamstress and then became a caretaker for her Aunt; the late MaSuzie Thomas for a few years until her passing.

Ruth graduated from high school and then pursued her nursing degree. She obtained her license as a Practical Nurse on October 19th 1959 from the Durham  North Carolina Nursing Board.

At the age of 24, she moved to Brooklyn NY with her late husband Clarence Clinton Link.

They had 6 children; Theresa, Valerie, Denese, Clarence Jr., Tracie and Darrell.  Ruth was a woman of GOd who lived a very quiet life, filled with family and love. On November 12th 1967, Ruth became a member of The Church of God of East New York located at 913 Sutter Avenue and has remained a faithful member ever since.

 

 As a nurse, Ruth worked for Bethel Hospital, now known as Brookdale hospital for many years. She then worked at  Linden B.General hospital/ Nursing home in Brooklyn  NY for over a decade until her retirement. Ruth’s commitment to excellence was unwavering. She was an amazing nurse who cared for thousands of people across the state of New York.

  She was a fierce leader who led with her faith in every situation. Ruth received many awards and certificates for her hard work and dedication to patients, peers and medical institutions. She was recognized and selected by her peers to lead and represent all nurses as a delegate and as the Union Representative for the Local 144, division of 1199 Health and Human Services. 

Ruth loved the Lord and ensured that her children and grandchildren loved him too. She praised him countlessly every single day and spoke the word of God to everyone she encountered. For many years, she served as President of the Usher Board at The Church of God of East New York. Ruth also conducted bible study at home and out in the community.  Her faith was strong and her love and passion for God was energetic and inspiring to all.

 

Her hobbies were gardening; crocheting and reading.  Ruth had her own garden and planted many vegetables. Upon harvest, she shared fresh food with her family, friends, neighbors and the community. 

Ruth was a caring, loving, and supportive mother. 

She cared deeply for her family, friends and community. She was resilient, confident and independent.  Ruth was an  assertive leader who believed in structure.

She was compassionate and served as a mentor to many.

 

Ruth unfortunately transitioned on September 4th 2024

To cherish her memory, she  leaves her daughter Denese Link McIntyre of Albuquerque New Mexico; her twin sister, Mrs. Ruby McLaurin, brother & sister in law Yvonne and Walter McCoy, 22 Grandchildren and 2 generations of great-grandchildren,a host nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, with other relatives and friends. 

 She is preceded in death by Her ex- husband- Clarence Clinton Link; 3 Daughters-Theresa Link Greene, Valerie Link Smiling, and Tracie Link Huggins-Robinson; 2 sons-Clarence Clinton Link Jr, and  Darrell Link, her late mother and father – Mr. & Mrs. Clara and Doc McCoy.

The family is appreciative of the love expressed towards them and would like to thank everyone for their constant support during this difficult time of grief. The family would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Reverend Clifton McDowell, and The Church of God of East New York, Rufus Williams, Christopher Parson, Sara Stevens and FDJ Funeral Services.
