Pierre Antoine Debrosse (affectionately called “L’homme Coriace”), was born on April 2nd, 1940, in Gonaives, the northern region of L’Hartibonite in Haiti, West Indies, to Berthau Debrosse and Leonie Athalante Simon (both deceased). Pierre was the 5th of 6 children of this union.
He grew up in Gonaives and went to school there. He later continued his studies to pursue a career as a mechanic. Upon graduation, he gained employment with the National de la Contrôle de la Malaria to help provide Malaria vaccines in Haiti. After many years of professional employment in Haiti, he migrated to New York City where he worked as a professional mechanic, carpenter, and handyman. He was also a New York City Cab driver for many years.
Along with his siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews, Pierre enjoyed telling jokes, playing cards, playing checkers, Dominoes and taking family road trips.
While living in Brooklyn, NY. he returned to Haiti to marry the love of his life Jacqueline Evelyn Thibault. They were married on Friday, July 16, 1971. Together they had one son named Emmanuel Debrosse.
Mon-Oncle Pierre (as he was affectionately called by all nieces and nephews) being a true man of principle, always made himself available for comments of support and leadership. She had a wide and varied knowledge on subject matters inclusive of history, politics, and religion. He knew the Lord and often offered strong arguments about salvation and faith. His later years were still full of zest for life as he had no known health challenges.
He was predeceased by his parents, all of this his sisters Paulette, Therese, Gertrude and Gislene; his brothers Marc and Jacques Debrosse. Pierre Antoine Debrosse was deeply loved. The fond memories he created will continue to live through his son Emmanuel Debrosse and daughter Nicole Chery Debrosse, daughter-in-law Vashti Debrosse, granddaughter Alyssa Marie Debrosse, grandson Ian Val Debrosse and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was a loving Dad, grandfather, brother, Uncle, father-in-law and friend, who impacted the lives of those with whom he interfaced. He may not have realized it, but he truly was a great influencer and friend.
May his soul rest in peace.
