In Loving Memory of Anthony Oliver Cornelius Bernard
September 19, 1961 – March 2, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Anthony Oliver Cornelius Bernard, who departed this life on March 2, 2025, at the age of 63.
He was born Oliver Cornelius Bernard on September 19, 1961, in Trinidad and Tobago, but his older sister Lenore preferred the name Anthony. The name stuck, and throughout his life, he was known as Anthony to family and close friends, while his family members affectionately called him Tony.
In the early 1970s, at the age of eight, Anthony relocated to Brooklyn, New York, with his parents and siblings. Growing up in a close-knit family, he carried with him the values of resilience, hard work, and devotion to family, which remained central throughout his life.
After attending Syracuse University, Anthony enlisted in the United States Army in 1985 at the age of 24. He went on to serve 24 years, including four years on active duty and 20 years in the Army Reserve. His military career reflected his deep love for his country and his steadfast commitment to discipline, leadership, and service—values that shaped both his professional and personal life.
Anthony was known for his calm, peaceful nature, his deep love for family, and his insatiable thirst for knowledge. He had a simple yet distinctive preference for the color white, a reflection of his serene and orderly spirit. Above all, he was a devoted brother, uncle, and friend, always ready to listen, encourage, and support those he loved.
He is survived by his brothers, Francis and Victor; his sisters, Lenore, Cheryl, Monica, and Suzanne; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Felix, and his brothers, O’Brian and Raphael.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Frantz Daniel Jean Funeral Home. Following the service, the Rite of Committal and Military Honors will take place on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Calverton National Cemetery.
Though we mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy of wisdom, kindness, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Rest in peace, Anthony. You are deeply loved and will never be forgotten.
Eternal rest grant unto Anthony O Lord
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
