Marie Antoine Obituary

Marie Ermite Antoine was born on November 25th, 1932 to Noncily Sanon and Irene Polycarpe
in Coq-Chante, Jacmel Haiti. She was preceded in death by her brothers Moramil, Emile, Odige
Polycarpe, and cousins Olivia Gabriel and Clarita Sanon.

Mit, as her loved ones called her, was raised by her Loving mother Irene (Yeyi) Polycarpe with
the support of her brothers Moramil and Emile. Mit was very fond of her birthplace Coq-Chante
which she used to refer to as “Lakay Nan Bamboo”. During Mit's teenage years and early
adulthood, Lakay was one of Haiti’s hidden treasures with beautiful mountains. Rivers,
waterfalls, coconut, breadfruit trees, cornfields, and coffee were in abundance. Mit loved her
mom, her grandmother Meze and often boasted about the beauty of her great-grandmother
Sirilna Polycarpe. Mit was a living library; she knew the family’s genealogy record by heart, from
Polycarpe, Jean-Baptiste, Gabriel and Sanon. However, Mit could not resist the attraction of
Port-au-Prince’s modern life and she moved there in the early 1950’s following in the footsteps
of her brother Emile. Mit got married in 1967 to her husband Talma Antoine. From that union,
they had two wonderful children, Kathy, and Pierre Giles Antoine.

Mit was a gentle soul, a good wife, a great mother, and grandmother. She was best known as a
very generous person to friends and family. She was a master at building lasting friendships and
relationships. She had a wide web of friends from 40 to 60 years ago and they are fully
integrated into the family.

Mit was not restrained by her modest background to work hard and pursue her dream of a
better life. In 1982, Mit moved to New York City where she spent the last 40 years of her life
between the Bronx and Brooklyn. She worked very hard alongside her husband and brought
their 2 children Kathy and Pierre(Jude) to The Big Apple.

Mit will be remembered as the most loving, caring, and forgiving angel. She will urge every
single one of us here not to hold grudges but look up to the brighter side of the horizon. Mit is
survived by her husband Talma Antoine, her children Kathy Antoine, Pierre Gilles (Jude)
Antoine, granddaughter Kenisha Celestin, brothers and sisters Jodanis Sanon, Manice Sanon,
Emmanuel Sanon, Eugenie Sanon, Alice Alexi, Noncyrel Sanon, Olivia Sanon, and many nieces
and nephews.
