Josephine Ferguson Obituary

Josephine Mejias Ferguson, also known as Ma, Joey, Aunty
Jo, was born on March 19 th, 1942, in Trinidad, West Indies,
to the late Emilio and Elvira Mejias. She was the second of
three children. Three years ago, her brother Carl preceded
her in death.
At a young age, she attended St. Benedicts RC School, and
then went on to St. Charles Girls R C High School. After
graduating she pursued a course in Typing and Shorthand,
which gained her the opportunity to obtain a secretarial
position with Carlton Grant, her Godfather.
In 1967, joe migrated to the United States of
America, and obtained a position as Secretary with Young
and Rubicam.
In 1969, Joe then met the Love of her Life Lou
Ferguson, and in 1971 they were married. That union
produced two children, Louis and Josette.
In 1975, she then decided to pursue her studies in
Nursing at Brooklyn Jewish School of Nursing and
graduated as a Registered Nurse in June 1979. Joe then
started employment with Brooklyn Jewish Hospital, in the
Neonatal ICU. In 1983 she was transferred to Interfaith
Medical center in the Emergency ROOM department and
went on to the Outpatient clinic department, from where
she retired in November 2004.
During her Nursing career, in 1993, Joe became a
member of MT. Moriah Spiritual Church, Inc and was
baptized by Archbishop Norris V. Ashton and the late Sov.
Queen Mother Marjorie Ashton. After baptism she became
engaged in the activities of the church and became one of
the teachers in the Sunday School Department. She was
ordained a deaconess in 1997. Joe demonstrated a heart of
love to everyone old or young, lend a helping hand when
needed, and made herself available when called upon. She
was very committed to the task at hand, very generous,
was quick in getting to the bedside of the sick, love a good
laugh, and was able to make you laugh even more.

She graduated from Mt Moriah Bible Class with a
certificate in Religious Studies and obtained her bachelor
and master’s degree in Theology from Christian Gospel
Mission Bible Institute of Trinity International Biblical
University.
Throughout her life, Joe touched many lives with her
words of Wisdom, Kindness and Charismatic smile.
