Jean Edvard Thibeaud, age 76, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born on June 5, 1948, in Caye Jacmel, Haiti, Jean was the eldest son of the late Elvé Thibeaud and the late Lucie Celestin. From an early age, Jean embodied responsibility, resilience, and a deep devotion to his family.
He pursued his education at Charles Moravia Primary School and Lycée Pinchinat in Caye Jacmel, later continuing at Lycée Toussaint and Lycée Firmin in Port-au-Prince. After completing his studies, he attended L’École Industrielle JB Damien, where he trained as an electrician. His natural talent for fixing and improving things made him not only a skilled tradesman but a trusted handyman for family and friends. Jean also developed an unexpected passion for sewing and became an adept and creative tailor, always willing to lend his craftsmanship to others.
In the early 1970s, Jean worked for ACHO in Terre Neuve and Gonaives, quickly gaining a reputation for his dedication and skill. In 1972, he married Lunesse Alexandre, and from their union, he welcomed his beloved daughter, Lucie Sherly Thibeaud Tchouassi, who was born on his birthday. Though Jean and Lunesse amicably parted ways shortly after, their shared commitment to family endured.
In 1975, Jean made the bold move to Brooklyn, New York, seeking greater opportunities. It was there he met the love of his life, Gladys Charles. They married on April 22, 1980, beginning a partnership rooted in love, strength, and unwavering support. Together, they raised two sons, Ricardo Hervey Thibeaud and Jean Edwin Thibeaud. Gladys remained by his side in health and in sickness, caring for him with extraordinary devotion until his final moments.
In 1976, Jean joined Adchem-The Adhesive Tape Engineers; Long Island New York, where he worked as a machinist for over three decades. His dedication and work ethic were recognized with numerous awards. Jean’s loyalty to his craft and colleagues left a lasting mark on all who worked alongside him. He retired with honor in 2012.
Beyond his professional life, Jean was a proud and devoted member of La Respectable Loge L’Initié Incorporated in Brooklyn, NY, where he served for more than 20 years.
Jean found joy in the simple yet profound pleasures of life: music, dancing, lively domino games, long walks with his wife, and spirited gatherings with family and friends. Known for his quiet, reserved demeanor and quick wit, he brought warmth and laughter to every room he entered. His commitment to family was unwaveringly always present, always dependable and always loving.
Jean leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and dedication. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Gladys Thibeaud; his cherished children, Lucie Sherly Thibeaud Tchouassi (Dr. Anselme Alain Tchouassi), Ricardo Hervey Thibeaud (Layla Thibeaud), and Jean Edwin Thibeaud (Lawren Moore-Thibeaud); his adored grandchildren, Ginou Tchouassi, Yohsie Tchouassi, Ciara Thibeaud, Serena Ochoa, and Amira Aptiliasnimov.
He is also survived by his brother, Frisner Thibeaud; his nieces and nephews, Mike Thibeaud, Widny Thibeaud, Schemida Sylvain, Jerrye Thibeaud, Saint Louis Hervé Thibeaud, Elvardo Thibeaud and Neo Jergens Thibeaud; his many beloved cousins, including Harry, Jhon, Paul (Polo), Jonas, Veronique, Wilna, Resia, Andrelita (Tata), and Yvanne; and a large extended family of in-laws, relatives, and lifelong friends.

The Thibeaud, Charles, Sainvil, Jean Batard and Tchouassi families, along with countless friends and loved ones, mourn the loss of a man whose quiet strength, steadfast heart, and deep love for family will be remembered forever.
