Hollis Ruthvyn Dowers Mundy was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, to Estalita Mundy on October 24th, 1946. He attended Richmond St. Boys Anglican School in Port of Spain. Knowing the world had more in store for him, he eventually moved to the United States, where he built a vibrant and meaningful life. On May 27th, 1995, he married the love of his life, Beverly Phillip, in Brooklyn, NY.
For over 30 years, Hollis worked dedicatedly as a superintendent throughout Brooklyn. He prided himself on taking care of his family, doing whatever it took to ensure his wife and children always had everything they needed.
Hollis-Ruthvyn—or "Dowie," as he was affectionately known by his close friends and family—loved to party and truly loved to entertain. If he was around, there were always laughs, good vibes, and a boisterous personality that filled the room. He knew what it meant to work hard as nothing in life comes for free and he ensured he passed that philosophy along to his children. He also cherished his weekend trips to one of his favorite places, Atlantic City with his wife, Beverly. Hollis was a man who always showed great strength both mentally and physically. Taking on the burdens to shield his family and take care of them. Forever a fighter…
Hollis-Ruthvyn was a strong man, fighter through and through. A fighter who had shown his family great strength right until the very end. Although he had endured a long, hard-fought health battle, he stayed strong and kept on for his family before peacefully transitioning on May 13th, 2026.
Hollis Ruthvyn is preceded in death by his mother, Estalita ("Ma"); his older brother, Clive; his older sister, Grace; and his eldest son, Kurt.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; Kelisha ("Penny"), his sons, Keston (wife Harriet), Kelied, and Kahdeem; and his step-daughter, Carlene. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy through his grandchildren: Kerrie, Kenniesha, Kenya, Julia, Keliyah, Khalil, Kelied, Kamari, Kyrie, Kyra, Kaidence, Kahdeem, Kahseem, Keston, and Kason, as well as a large, loving extended family.
The family is deeply appreciative of the love expressed toward them and wishes to thank everyone for their constant support during this difficult time of grief. They would also like to extend sincere thanks to Maimonides Medical Center and Frantz Daniel Jean for the exceptional care and compassion shown to their loved one and family
