Obituary of Sister Hélène Saintelise Roc Nicolas
 
Sister Hélène Nicolas (née Hélène Saintélise Roc), born on January 29, 1933, was a devoted wife, loving mother, faithful servant of God, entrepreneur, and pillar of her family and church community.
 
In 1953, while singing in the choir at the Independent Church of God, Hélène met the love of her life, Philius Nicolas. She was 21 years old when they met, and their friendship soon blossomed into a lifelong partnership. In December 1956, at the age of 23, she married Philius Nicolas, beginning a blessed marriage that would span nearly 70 years and be marked by faith, love, family, and service to God. Together, they were blessed with five children: Reverend Dr. Samuel Nicolas, Reverend Dr. Kelly Nicolas, Ketsia Nicolas Noel, Herold Nicolas, and Dr.  Philippe Nicolas.
 
A hardworking and dedicated woman, Sister Hélène was a talented seamstress in Haiti. After immigrating to the United States with her family in February 1966, she devoted her self to caring for her family while faithfully supporting her husband’s ministry. She later owned and operated Sutter Avenue Dry Cleaners and also operated the Crusade Day Care Center, where she lovingly cared for children and served families in her community.
 
Thirty-three years ago, Sister Hélène founded Jardin des Oliviers, a ministry that reflected her compassion, faith, and commitment to serving others. Her prayers, sacrifices, and unwavering support played a vital role in the establishment and growth of the church. Though she never sought recognition or praise, her influence was deeply felt by all who knew her.
 
Known for her kindness, humility, generosity, and compassion, Sister Hélène touched countless lives through her quiet acts of service. She welcomed strangers, cared for those in need, and demonstrated Christ’s love through her actions. She was always ready to encourage, comfort, and help anyone who crossed her path.
 
Despite spending the last seventeen years of her life in a nursing home due to illness, she remained surrounded by the love and care of her family. Her faith remained steadfast, and her legacy of love continued to inspire those around her.

Today, while we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life well lived—a life marked by faith, love, sacrifice, service, and devotion to God. Sister Hélène leaves behind her beloved husband, Bishop Philius Nicolas; her five children; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; numerous relatives, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ.

Her legacy will continue through her family, her church, and all those whose lives she touched. She fought the good fight, kept the faith, and served God with all her heart.
