Celebrating the life of
Cynthia Patricia Williams
To have known Patricia is to have known kindness, selflessness and love. Cynthia Patricia Williams (née Nisbett), was born on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao to Clarice Swantson (née Hanley) and Warren Nisbett on June 21, 1947. Pat, as she was affectionately called, grew up on the island of St. Kitts where she spent her formative years. There she attended St. Johnson Village Primary School and Basseterre Senior School. During this time, Pat also worked in her mother’s shop and was a part of a singing group called The Skylines with her friends Agnes and Dolly. In 1966, she moved to England to further her education. There she took clerical classes at the East Midland Educational Union. Yearning for more, Pat moved several times, living back in St. Kitts, then St. Thomas before finally settling in New York City in 1977. Eventually, she became employed at Con Edison where she worked for 28 years until her retirement in 2009.
Pat was a woman with a quiet demeanor but she possessed a huge generous and caring spirit that everyone around her benefitted from. She may have been soft spoken but her actions spoke volumes. Whether she thoughtfully picked up something for you at the store that you mentioned you liked, sending barrels back home to family, remembering birthdays, and other special dates, she was always showing how much she cared through her acts of kindness. Pat was well known for her weekly Sunday calls to check in with family and friends.
Pat had a passion for traveling. She participated in ANSAR’s (Anguilla Nevis St. Kitts Associations Reunion) bi-annual reunion conferences which took her to various destinations around the world. Her travels also included numerous cruises and girls trips with friends. Upon her retirement from Con Edison, Pat became even more adventurous and really began to get to know the city she lived in as well. She often attended various museums, explored parks and dined at restaurants throughout New York City and enjoyed many Broadway plays.
Although in her later years her quality of life became challenging, she still had a sense of humor and her fiercely private, independent spirit. Pat peacefully transitioned on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. She is preceded in death by her mother, Clarice and her father Warren. She leaves to mourn her daughter, Stasi and her husband Edwin; her daughter Cordelia; her grandchildren, Imani, Sasha, Caleb and Jacob; her brothers, Vernon, Warren and his wife Marlene, Kenrick and his wife Charlene; her sister Muriel and her husband Don; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, God children and friends.
