Charite Simon Obituary

Charité Amalia Dieu Vincent, was born in Port-de-Paix, Haiti and was the third child of Félix Vincent and Mercina Auguste. Charité joined the ancestors on the 5th day of October 2022. She was a vibrant sister, mother, grandmother, until her health precipitously degraded this past September.

Charité, went to school at “Les Soeurs de la Sagesse”, and after graduation, she taught there for several years. Her last role as an educator in Haiti was at “Jacques Maurepas”. In the 50s she began a romantic relationship with Luc C. Simon, and within two years they were married. From this union, they had six (6) children together.
The couple left Haiti in the early 60s. While working for the UNESCO program, the couple found a new home in Congo, first landing in Mbandaka, before eventually moving to Kananga, where she would spend the next 27 years of her life.

In 1989, Charité lost her husband in a tragic car accident, and returned to Brooklyn NY, broken hearted, where she lived with her sister until the end. The two sisters were best of friend and enjoyed each other’s company.

While in Zaire, for over 8 years, Charité taught French to the 7th and 8th graders at the Athéné Royale de Kananga. She then worked as a book keeper for Sotraf a private construction company.

While in Zaire, Charité was also a very active member of the Inner Wheel Rotoract club of Kananga, where she served as a past President. Despite all her involvements, she was a
dedicated loving mother and participants of a local charismatic prayer group. Mom had many many friends, and truly enjoyed their good company. She was always busy volunteering somewhere, and never allowed herself to be bored. She enjoyed baby siting her grand-children Richard L, and Justin. She never missed anyone’s birthday and was very diligent in making sure that a birthday card was always sent and on time.

Charité enjoyed traveling the world. Cha, as we called her sometimes, never found a pilgrimage she didn’t enjoy. Her faith and love of God was very important as well. For years she volunteered at St Ignatius until it was closed. Following its closure she became a member of St Francis of Assisi, Blaise parish, where she fully integrated within that community. Charité is survived by : her adoptive son Anthony Georges-Pierre, two daughters Darnley and Garcia, fours sons: Luc Jr, Ralph, Richard, and Jean-Marc, eight grandchildren: Richard L, Justin, Crystal, Nicollette, Jamarc, Nia, Isabella, and Raphael, by her sister: Anne-Marie, three daughters-in-law Collette, Sumayyah, and Catherine, one son-in law, Fernando, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
