Athenise Thelisme

Athenise Thelisme was born in Saint-Marc, Haiti on February 15, 1942. On August 17, 2022, she left us to go home with the Lord at 2:15am in Brooklyn, New York. Athenise worked as a Certified Nurse Aide for the Promenade Nursing Home (Rockaway Park, NY). She was a devoted member of Eglise Baptiste Calvaire Int’l church and served in the church choir. Athenise was known for homemaking and hospitality. She had excellent cooking and sewing skills.

Athenise loved her family dearly and was the consummate peacemaker. Her heart was filled with warmth and kindness. She was the kind of person who made an impact on so many people, especially her family, who emigrated from her homeland, Haiti. Athenise will be greatly missed. Her commitment to helping others displayed gracefulness, compassion and true leadership, which allowed her to gain a unique sense of purpose throughout her life. She was a humble, kindhearted, hardworking individual, who always extended a helping hand to those in need. Not to mention, she was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother, and any caring name one can put to this amazing woman, whom we all dearly loved and considered the foundation of her family.

Athenise left footprints behind in every heart she touched. We will miss her laughter, smile and tenacity. Surely her memory and legacy will forever be cherished in our hearts. Athenise was preceded in death by her Mother, Cerezine Blaise Thelisme; Father, Cheri Thelisme; and her siblings, Espanga, Jeje, Annela, Gaby, Matide, Alia, Maxia, and Clement Thelisme, Absolu and Francine Altenor, Saint Pierre, Antoine, Herars, and Ermily Clement.

Athenise left behind to cherish her memories and celebrate her life her sons James Desilus, Gregory Desilus, and Alex (Tyhisha) Charles; brother, Dukerne Clement; sister, Elisainte Faroul; and grandsons, Tanaj Charles and Tyaire Charles; She will be sadly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, too numerous to mention. May she rest in eternal peace.

Words of thanks seems so inadequate for all the kindness and understanding that has been bestowed upon our family. We thank you for your prayers, encouraging words, comforting calls and texts, lovely cards and sincere words of solace. We are finding that Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. Funeral services will be held at 8am Saturday August 27th 2022 at Eglise Baptiste Calvaire Int’l with Pastor Gesner Bienne officiating. Arrangements are by Frantz Daniel Jean Funeral Services INC.
