Angela Hayde Obituary

 Angela O. Hayde Obituary

Angela O. Cadogan-Hayde passed away on March 27, 2023 in Queens, New York at age 68.

Angela was born in Barbados, West Indies and grew up in Fairfield Cross Roads with her three older siblings, her father and her maternal grandmother. She attended Grace Hill Primary School and St. Leonard’s Girls’ Secondary School where she was always at the top of her class. After completing secondary school, she immediately enrolled in Erdiston Teachers’ Training College, where she earned her Teaching Diploma. She then returned to St. Leonard’s Girls’ School, the very school from which she had graduated, but this time as a young teacher. In 1975/76, Angela was accepted into a Liberal Arts degree at the Cave Hill campus of the University of the West Indies (Barbados), graduating with a BA in 1979.

In 1979, Angela married her long-time fiancé, Mylon Hayde, a U.S. resident from Barbados, and she joined him in the USA the following year. Together, Angela and Mylon had their only child, Mylon Shakir Hayde, in 1988.

In the U.S., Angela attended Baruch College, from which she graduated with a BA in Business Administration in 1988. She followed this with an MS in Education and Guidance Counseling from Brooklyn College in 1995. She also obtained an Advanced Certificate in Guidance Counseling from the same institution, in 1996.

Angela was a tenured teacher of the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE) where she taught English Language Arts. She loved working with her students and enjoyed sharing her love of English literature with them. She was a dedicated teacher, committed to the growth and development of her students. After teaching for several years, she eventually found her true calling as a guidance counselor. In this capacity, Angela was able to offer her students support and guidance as they navigated their academic careers. Angela touched the lives of hundreds of New York City students, both as a teacher and guidance counselor. In 2019, after more than 30 years in the NYC school system, Angela retired from the NYC DOE.  However, ever the educator, she soon found herself teaching GED classes twice a week at the Brooklyn Public Library.

Besides her love of teaching, Angela had many interests and hobbies She was an avid reader and an enthusiastic sports fan. She enjoyed baseball (she loved the Mets!!) and tennis. She regularly attended the United States Open Tennis Championships, and closely followed Wimbledon, the Australian Open, the French Open, and all other major overseas championships, on TV. She had a passion for travel, and visited many foreign countries to immerse herself in new cultures. Most of her travel was done with her sister, Yvonne, and their combined three children. In addition, her dear friend, Ivy, often accompanied her on many domestic and international trips. Angela led a full and rich life, but, above all, she dedicated herself to raising her son and setting him on the road to success.

Angela is predeceased by her parents Siefert and Phyllis Cadogan. She is survived by her only child, Mylon Shakir Hayde. She will be sadly missed by family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.
